Meredith College has a wonderful study abroad program. The Honorable Mention will begin highlighting student experiences in this program to encourage students to travel and learn what Meredith’s Office of International Programs has to offer. Katherine (Katie) Thompson is a Senior in the Honors Program with an experience of her own to share.
“Ever since I was a little girl, I always wanted to travel and see the world. I have always had a passion for learning and admiring the world around me and Meredith’s Office of International Programs (OIP) allowed me to do just that. OIP’s Liz Yaros prides on study abroad not being a trip, but rather an educational study abroad experience. I have been very fortunate to be able to study abroad in three different countries and cities: Sansepolcro, Italy; London, United Kingdom; and San Ignacio, Belize. Each of these programs were very distinct in their own ways. However, the most important thing that studying abroad provided me with was a sense of independence of being able to navigate the world on my own. Liz consistently states that study abroad is a way of interacting with different cultures for a lifetime. As a soon-to-be college graduate, I plan to move to Washington, DC where I will live outside of a big city and learn to life in and navigate a brand-new city all on my own. If it were not for my study abroad experience, I would not have the confidence or a sense of independence to start out in my home city all of my own.”
